TUMKUR STUDENT’S MINISTRY:
The Student’s Ministry in Tumakuru began in the early 1990s and it is closely connected with St. John’s Mar Thoma church, Tumakuru. The Student’s Ministry is mainly centred around different Universities and Colleges situated in Tumakuru. It is a very dynamic ministry that is aimed at the overall development of the students and to meet their spiritual demands. The students from different parts of India come here for their higher studies and the St. John’s Mar Thoma Church, Tumakuru used to accommodate them very diligently. The Church and the community gives them the opportunity to nourish their spiritual life and to participate in the church activities creatively. The student community participates in all the activities including worship, choir and youth meetings.
COVID-19 has restricted Student fellowship in unprecedented ways and its spread considerably reduced the opportunities for the Church gatherings. But the conditions are getting better this year and had good support from the Colleges’ end to have good fellowships with the student community over here at Tumakuru. They have actively participated in Church activities and arranged Family and Student Community Fellowship on account of Onam Celebraton-2023. They have also represented the church and presented Carol-Choir during the Ecumenical Christmas Carol Service-2023 here at Tumakuru. We also used to meet every Sunday after the Holy Communion Service at St. John’s Mar Thoma Student CenterTumakuru. Presently 50 students are regularly participating in worship services from Colleges like Siddhartha Medical College, Siddhaganga Medical College, Sree Devi Medical College, Aruna College of Nursing, Ashwini College of Nursing etc. They actively engage in Youth fellowships and unveils their talents for the creative execution of the various programmes. The Church also provides other help like providing guidance and ensuring security to the students who come to Tumakuru. Thus St. John’s Mar Thoma Church, Tumakuru becomes a home away from home for them. Rev. Saji Babu is serving as the Student’s Chaplain
