Mar Thoma Youth Center, Bangalore

Bangalore Centre

The Mar Thoma Youth Center, Bangalore is the outside Kerala office of the Mar Thoma Yuvajana Sakhyam.  The office assists the headquarters at Tiruvalla in co-ordinating the activities of the yuvajana sakhyam members scattered outside Kerala. It connects the yuvajana sakhyams at parish, center and diocesan levels across the states to the Mar Thoma Yuvajana Sakhyam and vice versa in several ways. The assistant secretary promotes and co-ordinates the activities of the Sakhyam in the outside Kerala dioceses.

The MTYC is a home of youth. It provides hostel facility for youths who come to study and job purposes in Bangalore. At present, sixteen youngsters reside in the Center and the Bangalore Students’ Chaplain Rev. Abraham Thomas also resides at the Center. People come to the Center from different parts of the country and abroad for short stay. The guest rooms and dormitory facility are used by various organizations for camps, conferences and short stay purposes. In addition to accommodation facility, food is served according to the menu prepared. Outdoor games, reading corner and personal interactions make the life at the center lively and interesting all the time.

The beautiful chapel at the center offers a meditative atmosphere. All those who stay in the center come for daily prayer at 9.30pm every night. The prayer is led by the assigned youth each day and it helps in having a Christ-centered life, peace of mind and warmth in relationships among the members of the youth center ‘family’. The prayer fellowship is highly useful in strictly disciplining the lives of the residents.

Worship: The Center is engaged in many other ways too. Holy Communion is celebrated once in a month and Worship service is conducted occasionally.  It became the venue for camps and retreats of Bangalore Students’ Ministry and of other groups outside the Mar Thoma Church.

Publications: The outside Kerala office supports the editorial board of the ‘Ripples’, the English monthly publication of the Mar Thoma Yuvajana Sakhyam by providing the articles needed. We try to ensure the participation of the youths from outside Kerala in writing the articles for ‘Ripples’. We thankfully acknowledge the valuable contributions of the Sakhyam members to the ‘Ripples’. The Mar Thoma Youth Center, Bangalore publishes ‘Jeevavani’, a Kannada quarterly magazine exclusively for the Kannada speaking members of the Mar Thoma Yuvajana Sakhyam.

Kannada Calendar: The MTYC printed and distributed Kannada Calendar for the Kannada speaking members of our Church. A total of 3900 copies of calendar were issued to all the parishes and congregations of Devanahalli, Ankola and Mundugod centers of the Chennai- Bangalore diocese. We thank Rev. A.C.Kurian (Jr.) and Mr. Prasad George and team who did spend their time and talents generously towards the publishing of Jeevavani and Kannada Calendar.

Bible Notes: Jeeva Vani is a Kannada publication for the youth in the Karnataka mission field. Through this the Mar Thoma Yuvajana Sakhyam helps the youth for a better understanding of the Word of God.

Christmas Carol Service: The Mar Thoma Youth Center celebrated the joy of Christmas. Nearly eighty people participated in celebration. The members of the Youth Center conveyed the message of Christmas through creative performances.

Rev. Bibins Mathews Omanaly serves as the Assistant Secretary of the Mar Thoma Yuvajana Sakhyam outside Kerala Office, Bangalore.
